Still in Ukraine.....

Just imagine.  A long extended vacation in a foreign country. Awesome right?  I think I am starting to understand why the movie stars and idle rich do crazy things and crack up.  They don't have enough work to do! This is driving me nuts!

Oh well no need to complain about that.  We are still on the same twice a day orphanage schedule and the rest of the day just kind of molds itself around that.  Gotcha day should be October 14 so we are really looking forward to that.  Kody seems to recognize us and be comfortable with us so we are hoping the transition won't be too rough.

Our apartment here is quite nice.  It has its typical Ukrainian faults but its owned by a missionary (or something) from Canada so it has a somewhat western feel.  The most amazing thing here is the massive amount of trash everywhere.  If you see an area that is not littered up you know someone keeps it cleaned up because these people have no respect for that.  They throw down whatever wherever whenever.  I think it would help a little if there where trash cans around (another unheard of thing) but theres not.  On the flip side, a large army of city employees (?) keep the leaves cleaned up.  Faithfully.   Forget trying to figure it out.  I am certain the root of a lot of this countries problems lies in the lack of communal responsibility (our park our street our neighborhood etc).  Enough ranting on that now.  Steph's cooking has really gotten quite good.  Not like home but I bet our meals are the best food in Ukraine.   We traveled down to city center and got some burrito like things that they make from meat done on a sort of rotisserie at a road side stand.  We always go to the same one.  The guy knows a bit of English, smiles when he sees me and acts like he appreciates our business.  I can get 3 burritos there (plenty for a meal) for 51 UAH (3.92 USD).  They are quite good.

Enough rambling for now.  Goodnight to all!

Bill

  1. Maybe you need to get a soccer game going out in the street or hold some tent meetings.

  3. Is the " throw down whatever wherever whenever" worse than Sumter County?
